Golf the Star
Tucked away between Oakdale Dr. in Waukesha and National Ave. in Vernon is a hidden gem of a golf course – Morningstar Golf Club. Set on a former quarry, it has several very dramatic elevation changes, some reaching more than 100 feet.
The course offers 18-holes featuring “target golf,” shots that must be played to a landing with bunkers, mounds and depressions. Six of the holes add the obstacle of water. The course features 6,785 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.4 with a slope rating of 137 on bent grass*.
If you want to practice before you hit the greens or are new to golfing, the 15-acre practice range is a great place to start. There’s a 40,000 sq. ft. tee surface, a chipping green and a 9,000 sq. ft. putting green at the practice range.
If you need a little help with your golf swing, PGA professionals Michael Crowley and Jim Frutchey III are available to help you with individual, couple or group lessons, contact them to schedule a time.
Perched above the course in the clubhouse at Morningstar is a golf shop and restaurant, both open year round. The golf shop offers a large selection of equipment, clothing and golf accessories. Hickory Sticks Pub at the Club features daily specials including soups and salads, sandwiches, grilled hamburgers and chicken and a variety of entrees to appeal to a variety of appetites from pork ribs, tenderloin and seafood.
Early spring offers great rates for golfing if you want to check out the course before the season gets in full swing. Rates in April range from $34-$64 and in May from $39-$74 depending if you golf nine or 18 holes and include a cart and range balls. If visiting during summer or fall, check here for rates.
