Per capita, Milwaukee has the highest concentration of frozen custard shops, making our area the unofficial frozen custard capitol of the world! For people who aren’t from around here, custard is very similar to ice cream, but made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar, giving it a smooth and velvety texture. Oscar’s Frozen Custard

Oscar’s has three locations around Milwaukee, one right here in Waukesha. Oscar’s is a casual place with seriously delicious frozen custard. Flavors change daily so be sure to check their website to find your favorites. The owners, Jim and Susie Taylor are also the co-owners of downtown Waukesha’s gem, People’s Park restaurant.

Old Tavern Club Cheese

Old Tavern Club Cheese was founded in 1926 in Waukesha and it continues to be a family owned and operated cheese business. Today the company has over 200 cheese and gift items available to customers, including their famous sharp cheddar cheese spread, which was one of only three offerings they had when they first opened. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and can help with any cheese need you may have.
Arthur Bay Cheese Company (Available at the Waukesha Farmers’ Market)
237 E. Calumet St., Appleton
Since 2005, employees at Arthur Bay have offered hundreds of cheeses at their specialty store including fresh cheese curds, string cheese, block cheese and mozzarella whips. People come from all over to enjoy their cheeses, but you can check them out on Saturday mornings at the Waukesha Farmers’ Market.
Decatur Dairy (Available at the Waukesha Farmers’ Market)

Decatur Dairy is a co-op with more than 70 members and has won U.S. and world cheese contest awards, and several Wisconsin State Fair Awards. Decatur Dairy is at the Waukesha Farmers’ Market weekly and features brick cheese, cheddar, cheese curds, Colby jack, Colby, Swiss, Havarti, muenster and more.

Well-known for their pool tables and live music, the Cue Club also brings it with some delicious dairy menu items. We love the Wisconsin white cheddar cheese curds, the creamy smoked gouda macaroni and cheese bites and the broccoli cheddar bacon bites for starters. You can’t go wrong with a homemade pizza smothered in mozzarella cheese or their classic grilled cheese sandwich to make it a meal.

Meli is a fun, energetic restaurant and bar located in the heart of downtown Waukesha, serving a unique blend of American and Mediterranean cuisine.
A few of the must-have dairy options here are the roasted feta, where the cheese is crock-baked with oregano, tomato and olive oil, served with a crostini & kalamata olives on the side. We also love the saganaki, which is the flaming imported Kefalotiri cheese grilled to a melting perfection. And then there is the satisfying Meli burger. A one-half pound angus patty served with lettuce, tomato, onion on a pretzel bun with your choice of American, cheddar, manchego or Swiss cheese. Be sure to add the bacon or fried egg.

Located in the heart of downtown Waukesha The Crest offers something to please everyone. We really enjoyed the bacon cheddar curds, which are cheddar cheese curds with bacon bits fried and served with ranch dipping sauce. Also delicious is the Galway City pasta, cavatappi pasta tossed in bourbon cream sauce with slow cooked corned beef, onions and mushrooms. And no matter how full and satisfied you are after dinner, the crème brulee and the banana foster cheesecake should not be missed.
