Frozen Custard

Per capita, Milwaukee has the highest concentration of frozen custard shops, making our area the unofficial frozen custard capitol of the world!  For people who aren’t from around here, custard is very similar to ice cream, but made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar, giving it a smooth and velvety texture. Be sure to check out one of these spots the next time frozen custard is calling your name.

Cue Club of Wisconsin

Well-known for their pool tables and live music, the Cue Club also brings it with some delicious dairy menu items. We love the Wisconsin white cheddar cheese curds, the creamy smoked gouda macaroni and cheese bites and the broccoli cheddar bacon bites for starters.  You can’t go wrong with a homemade pizza smothered in mozzarella cheese or their classic grilled cheese sandwich to make it a meal.

Meli Bar & Restaurant

Meli is a fun, energetic restaurant and bar located in the heart of downtown Waukesha, serving a unique blend of American and Mediterranean cuisine.

A few of the must-have dairy options here are the roasted feta, where the cheese is crock-baked with oregano, tomato and olive oil, served with a crostini & kalamata olives on the side.  We also love the saganaki, which is the flaming imported Kefalotiri cheese grilled to a melting perfection.  And then there is the satisfying Meli burger.  A one-half pound angus patty served with lettuce, tomato, onion on a pretzel bun with your choice of American, cheddar, manchego or Swiss cheese.  Be sure to add the bacon or fried egg.

The Crest

We really enjoyed the bacon cheddar curds, which are cheddar cheese curds with bacon bits fried and served with ranch dipping sauce. Also delicious is the Galway City pasta, cavatappi pasta tossed in bourbon cream sauce with slow cooked corned beef, onions and mushrooms.  And no matter how full and satisfied you are after dinner, the crème brulee and the banana foster cheesecake should not be missed.
