Apple Harvest Fest

The Friends of Retzer Nature Center invite you to the 30th annual Apple Harvest Festival on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016.

There is so much to do and see, plan on staying all day! Hours of the festival are 9am-5pm. At only $5 per carload, it’s an affordable, fun family event. And friends of Retzer Nature Center members receive FREE entrance into the festival.

Be sure to check out all the festival has to offer:
• Folk concerts
• Apple pie baking contest
• Children’s activities
• Scarecrow Lane
• Craft fair
• Planetarium shows
• Guided nature hikes
• Horse-drawn wagon rides
• Sample caramel apples, apple crisp and of course…. apple pie!

Scarecrow Lane
A unique part of the Apple Harvest Festival is Scarecrow Lane. People are encouraged to build their own scarecrow within one of three categories, best animal, most likely to scare off crows or the best apple theme.

Getting started is easy. Just submit a registration form by Sept, 14 to Retzer Nature Center. Then pick up your scarecrow assembly packet with all the necessary information to build your scarecrow. Included in this packet is an orange tag to display your scarecrow’s name, the names of your group members and the specific category you are entering your scarecrow. When finished, bring your completed scarecrow to Retzer Nature Center.

Finished scarecrows are placed on stakes provided on the paved “Adventure Trail.” Judging will be done on Friday, Sept. 16. All first, second and third place ribbons, along with best in show will be displayed on the scarecrows for all to see during the Apple Harvest Festival. So get creative and see what kind of scarecrow you come up with!
