Antiques: Life’s Treasured Moments Await
It all started when I was little and my family would go to northern Wisconsin (or “up north” as we call it) on summer vacation. While we were there we’d stop by all of the antique shops in town. I remember being amazed at all of the items, each store was so different from the next, we never knew what we’d find. My love of antiques started then, with my mom, and she and I still get out and do some antiquing together as often as we can.
The Wisconsin Antique Dealers Association Show & Sale is just around the corner, on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8, 2016, and mom and I can’t wait! This year there are 56 dealers from six states to show off their collectibles. This is a great show for many reasons; it’s affordable, it’s a family-friendly event and the antiques are certified authentic.
There will be so much for mom and me to see that we need a plan. Thankfully the Wisconsin Antique Dealers Association Show & Sale’s website has photos of items so we can scout before we go and know where to head once we arrive. Some items available at the show will be jewelry, furniture, home decorations, figurines, clocks, paintings, games, firearms, knick knacks, Halloween décor, Christmas items, molds and glassware, just to name a few! Make sure you check out the photos before you go too.
While we are there we are for sure going to take in the free exhibit “Wisconsin Sports”. It showcases the last 40 years of father and son team Ron and Chris Maki’s rare collection of Wisconsin sports memorabilia that range from the earliest dates possible to the 1960s.
The Makis will be at the show exhibiting their collection on Friday and Saturday. They will answer attendees’ questions and share their Wisconsin sports knowledge. They also hope an enthusiast will bring a unique piece to sell to them that they don’t already own.
There will also be tasty food on site for when we get hungry and need to take a break between all of the antiquing fun. Make the time to come out and see what treasures you’ll find at the Wisconsin Antique Dealers Association Show & Sale, you’ll be glad you did. And if you see mom and me, be sure to say hello!
The Wisconsin Antiques Dealers Association, founded in 1948, is a not-for-profit organization that produces two antiques shows annually. The admission of $7 funds college scholarships as well as grants to Wisconsin historic and heritage groups.
