Waukesha is celebrating this month with a weekend of “flake out” fun at Waukesha JanBoree featuring activities for everyone to enjoy. JanBoree will be held Jan. 20-22 at various locations in the Waukesha Pewaukee area and here are a few highlights of things you shouldn’t miss when you check it out.

Fri. Jan. 20 Events
At Lowell Park (right on Michigan St. near the Toboggan Run) you won’t want to miss:

  1. Ice Sculpting Demos watch pros as they turn a chunk of ice weighing thousands of pounds into amazing sculptures (weather permitting) 3:30-6:30pm
  2. Balloon Glow see beautiful balloons light up the sky from 5:30-7pm
  3. Fireworks Extravaganza at 8pm

“Flakey” Traveling Circus at Waukesha North High School will feature hula-hoopers, contortionists and manipulators. Suitable for all ages with performances lasting 30 minutes and beginning at 6 & 7pm.  Free and limited tickets available, contact the WPRF office after Jan. 3 at (262) 524-3737 to reserve your tickets.

Sat. Jan. 21 Events
There are so many options for things to do at JanBoree on Saturday, it is best to check out the full list here. Some highlights include a Frosty 5K a walk/run,  geocaching, Footgolf & S’Moorball, ice sculpting contest, ice bocce ball, ice skating and Penguin Egg hunt and so much more.

Sun. Jan. 22 Events
To wrap up the festivities on Sun. Sunday, Jan. 22, stick around to experience:

  1. “The First Stargazers” Charles Horwitz Planetarium Show at Retzer Nature Center from 9am-4pm (20 minute shows). Retzer Nature Center will also offer winter hikes from 10am-4pm and free snowshoe rentals
  2. Ice Fishing Clinic at Minooka Park from 10am – 2pm with hands-on fishing skills for kids, includes equipment and bait
  3. Alaskan Malamute Dog Pull from 11am-3:30pm at Minooka Park picnic area #2. This is an open competition with dogs pulling up to 3,000 pounds on a wheeled cart. Snow is not needed for this event
  4. Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides around Minooka Park from 11am-2pm
  5. There is also a family concert, indoor ice skating available on Sunday.
