Bring spring in with help from The Front Porch
When I walked into The Front Porch in Waukesha I found myself in a home decorating wonderland, chock-full of silk flowers, home décor, antiques, gifts, seasonal items as well as a full women’s clothing boutique with exclusive apparel, jewelry, purses, scarves and more.
Located at 1505 State Rd. 164 for the last 10 years, The Front Porch offers many home decorating options but is best known for its high-end silk flowers. They are so genuine looking it’s hard to believe they are not the real things. Some of them even feel like actual flowers – the only thing missing is the fragrance.
Partners Ann Schneider and Vicki Mistele, who started The Front Porch 20 years ago in Watertown, know a thing or two about decorating for the seasons. I asked for a few easy fixes to bring spring into my life and here are their suggestions.
Greens are really big right now. Moss, terrariums and succulents are everywhere. And, they are easy to work with. Just select some greens that you like and make an arrangement with them. Put the arrangement into a glass container like a lantern or a pillar candle holder and you have a trendy new springtime piece.
Redo your mantle. A focal point in any home, your mantel’s look should change with the seasons. To achieve a new look get a candlestick, put a green orb on top and poof, a cute, super easy decorative piece that brings spring indoors. Get a few candlesticks of different heights to create a visual contrast.
Switch up your table scape. Another focal point of your home is the kitchen table. Find some spring silk flowers like tulips, daffodils and magnolias, add some decorative wood branches and either put in a vase or arrange on the table. Spring has sprung!
Add some spring to your wardrobe by picking out a pretty new scarf or purse. The Front Porch has many to choose from that will give a refreshing springtime feel to any outfit and won’t break the budget.
The Front Porch also hosts regular classes for floral design, decorating and furniture rehab. It also offers in-house decorating services and professionals just for weddings.
